Session Description

There are many ways to invest in fixed income securities, including fixed or floating rate instruments. Municipal bond investors also have access to a variety of different securities, including a variety of floating rate instruments. This course will provide an overview of the tax-exempt municipal bond marketplace, the various municipal floating rate securities structures, as well as how to potentially utilize them within client portfolios.

Learning Objectives

Participants will gain an understanding of the municipal floating rate securities market and various structures, and how they might use floating rate securities in the construction of client portfolios to potentially insulate client portfolios against higher short term rates in a rising rate environment, as well as to maintain flexibility within client portfolios. 


Speaker Bio

Marc Van Bell, MBA, Product Specialist, BMO Asset Management

As a product specialist, Marc is a critical liaison between the BMO Municipal Fixed Income Team and current clients and prospective investors. In addition, he works closely with the sales team to cultivate new opportunities for the municipal lineup. He joined the company in 2010. Previously, Marc was a product specialist for the BMO Global Asset Management Fundamental Growth Team. Prior to joining the company, he was marketing director for Red Granite Advisors LLC, a Milwaukee-based investment adviser focused on large-cap growth investing. Marc also spent more than 10 years in capital markets as an institutional equities salesperson for A.G. Edwards & Sons and The Ziegler Companies. Marc holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.B.A. from the University of Iowa. He also holds the FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.
